Lets deal with a classic song from one of the Best combo in Tamil Cinema K.Balachandar – Ilaiyaraaja – Vaalee – SPB.What’s so special abt this song to write off ? Its the situation matters.A duet or a peppy or even a pathos won’t do justice for this kinda situation.First lets see the situation b4 going to the song.
Situation:
With total frustration,Rahman goes on a journey without knowing the destination. On the way he gets introduced to Sithara,a nice relationship blossoms between them which makes Rahman on top of the world Esp.when he is yearning for a person with whom he could share his past life burdens.
At this type of scenario the song has to reflect Rahman’s state of mind i.e.a blend of his present happiness and past bitterness instead of usual duet or pathos. That’s what done by the amazing trio KB – Raja – Vaalee in an amazing style.See the Raja’s Magic here, the song wud have poignancy but @ the same time it won’t have complete pathos feel like Oorai Therinchukitten Or Raaja Enbaar Manithiri Enbaar and here we also need to mention Vaalee’s Lyrics which captures the Rahman’s Life in jus two lines
நான் போட்ட பூமாலை மணம் சேர்க்கவில்லை
நீ தானே எனக்காக மடல் பூத்த முல்லை!!!
And here comes the classic and my most favt lines
Really an Awesome song. KB always gives importance to Music and Lyrics that suits the story and situation.
But I have a doubt in this song, in the lines:
“Kaanal neeraal theeraadha Dhaagam
Gangai Neeral Theerndhadhadi”
In my opinion, it should be reverse:
“Gangai neeral theeradha dhaagam
Kaanal Neeral theerndhadhadi”
Since the 1st line is very obvious, whereas the 2nd line is very contradictary but suitable for the story.
Kaarthik!!! Really amazing u have read my mind.I too have the same thought breaking in my head for years…
As you said here ganga should be compared with geetha while kaanal neer should be compared with sithara..(as the reason u said)
Vaaleya paatha intha doubt kekanumnu pala varushama ninachukittu iruken…Lets See..
Again i was thrilled when u asked abt these lines….hats off kaarthik..neenga 200% KB Fanatic thaaaan
“Kaanal neeraal theeraadha Dhaagam
Gangai Neeral Theerndhadhadi”
How will you compare Gangai with Geetha? Think about the story first.
Hero first thinks Geetha is a good lady and marries her. But later leaves her for her extreme possessiveness and mistrust towards him. She is an egoist. So she is only kaanal neer.
But… I accept the lines are not poetic because it gives obvious meaning.
Naanum Vaali or KB kitta kekkaradhukkaaga indha
Question-a romba naala nenachittu irukken…
Let’s hope we’ll get the answer soon from Vaali or KB
hi,
here is my take on those two lovely lines
“Kaanal neeraal theeraadha Dhaagam
Gangai Neeral Theerndhadhadi”
Kaanal neer – the relationship between Rahman and Geetha is like Kaanal neer..though it appears to the external world that there exists a good relationship between them actually is it no so..(irukku aana illa !!!)
gangai neer – Rahman gets a new relationship through Sitara and that is compared to the Holy river Gangai
Also Ganges can be compared to a Sea in terms of its length and breadh
