Veg.Melody BGM- Cheenikum.

Just experience it, am getting emotional. No words can summarise this sheer Masterpiece.Typical Ilaiyaraaja’ish.

Note: Thanks a Zillion to the gentleman, who posted this in youtube.

a neat write-up on S.A.Rajkumar’s early period compositions.

நல்ல பதிவு,நம்மில் பலருக்குத் தெரியாத சில ஆச்சரியமான தகவல்கள் கூட.

Here’s the Link written by one of my good friend Kanapraba, in Twitter  : S.A.Rajkumar’s early period compositions.

Am devoting this post to T.Rajendar.

Though listening to this song for years, i haven’t got so emotional as in the last few days, hence of late it become an habit not going to bed without listening feeling Vaigai Karai Kaatre…..Agreed Jesudas or Yesudas (as u prefer) has done a remarkable job in evoking the poignancy, but  wat’s the most beautiful thing is,T.Rajender’s soulful Orchestration, which took the song to Himalayan levels.Eg.a Solo pathos violin piece in both interludes is jus more than a classic which kindles all our emotions, thus we end up in crying literally.(Also you can hear a mild guitar piece in the background when the violin is playing in both interludes.) Wat’s more surprising is, as in Raja’s style,T.R. has used Guitar in a pathos number which is very unconventional in those days.

Actually i thot of writing only abt the Vaigai Karai Kaatre, but accidentally chanced upon another gem in youtube (when searching for Vaigai Karai Kaatre…) which proved sternly, TR is not a Kaama Soma composer, instead he loves to use pretty lively instruments in orchestration which is so pleasant to ears unlike TR’s today compositions.Wats so special abt this song ? Sheer Sitar Magic!!! Song starts off with a violin orchestration followed by Sitar, there after you can hear only Sitar thru out the song in all the three interludes drenched in Hindustani Classical Flavour.Needless to say, SPB has done an excellent job as usual.

Ironically, TR has become a joker today in our minds, Thanks to his clown-like appearances in the movies + nonsensical approach in interviews.Still i feel he carved a space in the Tamil Music with his evergreen melodies.(But sadly the current genre folks unable to realise those ones.)

Missing Good Old Days TR.

Malare Malare Ullasam….

With just two days to go for Maestro’s Birthday i would like to revive some of his rare classics with visuals.Lets start with an amazing solo number sung by Janaki from the movie Un Kaneel Neer Vazhinthaal.Though the movie was a disaster,it had an interesting combo for the first (and ofcourse last time too) Rajini + Balumahendra.Probably many might have seen this movie in Raj Tv.The song is a typical Balu’s duet shot in his favt ooty locations with the mesmerizing janaki’s voice @ the backdrop. How come ooty looks so refreshing only under the lens of Balu ?

Situation Matters.

Lets deal with a classic song from one of the Best combo in Tamil Cinema K.Balachandar – Ilaiyaraaja – Vaalee – SPB.What’s so special abt this song to write off ? Its the situation matters.A duet or a peppy or even a pathos won’t do justice for this kinda situation.First lets see the situation b4 going to the song.

Situation:

With total frustration,Rahman goes on a journey without knowing the destination. On the way he gets introduced to Sithara,a nice relationship blossoms between them which makes Rahman on top of the world Esp.when he is yearning for a person with whom he could share his past life burdens.

At this type  of scenario the song has to reflect Rahman’s state of mind i.e.a blend of his present happiness and past bitterness instead of usual duet or pathos. That’s what done by the amazing trio KB – Raja – Vaalee in an amazing style.See the Raja’s Magic here, the song wud have poignancy but @ the same time it won’t have complete pathos feel like Oorai Therinchukitten Or Raaja Enbaar Manithiri Enbaar and here we also need to mention Vaalee’s Lyrics which captures the Rahman’s Life in jus two lines

நான் போட்ட பூமாலை மணம் சேர்க்கவில்லை

நீ தானே எனக்காக மடல் பூத்த முல்லை!!!

And here comes the classic and my most favt lines

Me,My Life & Raaja….

Before start with my post, i wud like to render my sincere apology to Kamal for my delayed post in response to his Tag.The thing for the delay is, its been jus a year entered into the Raja’s World of Music.(A Die-Hard Rahmaniac till 2007 dec.Dunno what struck in 2008,completely lost myself in Raja’s compostions.) Even though i had experienced his famous classics(As Usual Mohan Hits :-)   during my college days) i don’t have much idea to write abt @ the time when kamal tagged. So i procrastinated till i believe that i can come up with a post regarding this.

Lets Start..

1.) The Moment that introduced to Raaja….

Though i vaguely remember a thing which my relatives used to say till now is, I feel excited whenever listening to Raasathi Onna Kaanatha Nenju…Probably it was @ the age of 3 or 4 i guess. But the exact moment which i can recollect is, it was in my second standard i lost myself in a song, Thaazhampoove Vaasam Veesu from the movie Kai Kodukkum Kai.I used to broke down into tears whenever listening to this song..(Even my papa used to play intentionally to make me cry.)Interestingly i wasn’t even aware of the movie name or the composer name or even the pallavi of the song @ that time.I think its jus the pathos feel tune made me cry.

2.) Name one occassion where Raaja’s music directly/ indirectly influenced your life.

I was made to stop on a railway crossing line, when i was on the way to see how my college hostel looks for the first time.(it was the eve of my first day MCA Class.) Jodi Kilyenge Pakkathile…. playing @ the Tea Kadai near by the railway crossing soothed me to some extent as i was much tensed due to the upcoming trauma of first hostel experience.

After completion of  my Final Year Project Viva-Voce,i was in the Thiruneveli Bus Stand waiting for my hometown bus..Interestingly Jodi Kiliyenge Pakkathile….was playing @ the Tea Kadai near by platform.God!!! Raja made Chaos Theory much simpler before Kamal’s Dasavatharam.LOL..

3.) Lets take Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi into account. Assuming that one of this is either your mother tongue or native language, name a favorite song in each of the other 4 languages that immediately comes to your mind.

Tamil: Maancholai Kilithaaano Maanthaano…

Telugu: Obviously Aamani Paadave Hayigaa….(Itha Thavira Oru Telugu Paatum Naan Kettathille.)

Malayalam: Ponveyilie poo mazhayidho..My Most Favt.

Kannada: Pallavi Anu Pallavi Theme Music.(The Interlude Violin Counterpoint takes me out of the world @ any time of listening.)

Hindi: Ey Zindagi Gale Lage La..(Itha Thavira Vera Rajavoda Hindi Paatu Naan Kettathille)

4.) One song of Ilaiyaraaja that you consider rare and think a song that many people should have known but don’t.

Hmm…Pootukal Potaalum Veetukul Nirkaathu Kaatru..(Chatriyan.)

5.) Lets keep the last one simple…Raaja’s number that you are hearing right now/ most recently heard..?

Kannil Paarvai..of Naan Kadavul.(Surprisingly Shreya has sung beautifully.)

Finally am Tagging to Narayanan Sir,Rajendra Sir,Kannan..(Hope they wud come up with a post ASAP unlike me.)

Making of Naan Kadavul Re-Recording…

Needless to say, there wud be a grand BGM feast for all raja folks in Naan Kadavul. So atleast for the time being jus have a glimpse @ the Trailer of Naan Kadavul BGM….Completely Speechless & Stunned by the Orchestration.

Isaignani – BGM – Back Ground Master.

BGM!!! What to Say !!! The Word became more Special to all Tamil Folks Or attained Perfect Significance after 80’s,Jus Coz Of One & Only Isaignani.Pre-Maestro Period People Used to Laugh due to The Usual Soha BGM(Which now became a Mobile Ring tone among College Guys to Woo Gals or Show Off in Public) Played in the B/w Movie Scenes.Even Now People used to see that BGM as a Comedy rather as a Pathos Feel which is an embarassing thing i feel for musicians.Oru Emotional Scene BGMkku People Sirikiraanganna? What to Say Its Purely Music Director’s Flaw who failed to Bring Poignancy among the audience.

But Things Changed Dramatically Esp.In BGM after Raja’s Foray.I Swear None other than Raja haven’t Revolutionized the BGM with Perfect Sinking to the Scene.Infact his BGM alone wud deliver the Apt Emotions, what the Scene demanded.(Which reduces the significant burden on the directors and actors.)

Raja’s BGM

  • Can Make you Laugh.(Listen to the Agni Natchathiram BGM When VK.Ramaswamy & Janagaraj Playing Hide And Seek With Disco Shanthi.)
  • Can Make you Weep.(Aboorva Sahotharargal Register Marriage Scene,Poove Poochudava Climax BGM.)
  • Can Create Goosebumps.(Terrific Violin BGM’s Played in the Scene When Nadia comes to see the Yellow Roses Planted Outside of her House By S.ve.Shekar Movie:Poove Poochudava.Pure Western Classical,Perfect Symphonic Style.)
  • Can bring Great Romantic flavour.(Mahanathi.Kamal’s Smooch Scene With Suganya,Raja Brings Romance thru Violins.Absolute Bliss.)
  • Can make you Frightening.(Om Om Hari Om BG Voice from the Movie Poove Poochudava.)
